Jamal Murray injures ankle and leaves game for Nuggets 1

DENVER — All-Star guard Jamal Murray exited the Denver Nuggets’ matchup against the New York Knicks just prior to halftime due to a left ankle injury sustained on Friday night.

Murray encountered contact from a driving OG Anunoby in the lane and subsequently stepped back onto the right foot of teammate and fellow All-Star Nikola Jokic.

Murray collapsed to the floor in discomfort, clutching his left ankle. He was assisted to the locker room by teammate Jonas Valanciunas, wincing as he made his way off the court with 1:05 remaining.

During the break in play, Knicks coach Mike Brown contested the on-court ruling of an Anunoby charge. The challenge was upheld, resulting in Murray being charged with a blocking foul, and Anunoby converted both free throws, extending the Knicks’ lead to 65-42 at halftime.

No immediate information was available regarding the seriousness of Murray’s injury.

This season marked Murray’s first selection as an All-Star in his nine-year career.

He sustained the injury on a night when the Nuggets fielded their original starting lineup for the first time since November 12, as Aaron Gordon (hamstring) returned from a lengthy absence and Cam Johnson made his comeback from a sprained right ankle.
