DETROIT — Anthony Edwards is disqualified from NBA postseason honors as he is unable to meet the 65-game minimum requirement after the Minnesota Timberwolves announced his absence against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night, citing a right knee injury and an illness.

He has participated in 59 games, but only 58 are counted towards the league’s official record, and Minnesota has six matches remaining in the regular season.

Edwards did not take the court in Detroit, one game after contributing 17 points in 23 minutes during a victory over Dallas in his first appearance in two weeks. He returned to action against the Mavericks following a six-game absence due to his right knee issue.

The four-time All-Star and two-time all-league guard placed seventh in NBA MVP voting for the past two seasons.

Edwards is posting a career-high average of 29.3 points per game, but he will not reach 70-plus games as he did in each of his first five seasons in the league.
