DALLAS — Cooper Flagg’s inaugural season concluded on Sunday due to a sprained left ankle.

Flagg, the top overall selection and a frontrunner for Rookie of the Year, incurred the injury early in the second quarter during the Dallas Mavericks’ final regular-season game against the Chicago Bulls.

He twisted his ankle while landing after attempting to tip in his own missed shot amidst two Bulls defenders. As he remained on the floor, the Mavericks committed a foul to facilitate Flagg’s exit from the game with 10:11 left in the first half.

Minutes later, Flagg was officially declared out.

Flagg concluded his rookie campaign with averages of 21.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals across 70 games. He leads the Mavericks in total points, rebounds, assists, and steals, finishing just five blocks shy of teammate Daniel Gafford.

The Rookie of the Year voting is anticipated to be competitive between Flagg and his Duke teammate Kon Knueppel, who averaged 18.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game for the Charlotte Hornets while setting a rookie record with a league-high 273 made 3-pointers.
