Alperen Sengun of Houston has been added to the roster for this season’s NBA All-Star Game on Sunday, having been chosen as a replacement for Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

Sengun, who is now Turkey’s first two-time All-Star after being selected last season as well, will take Gilgeous-Alexander’s spot on the World team for the event on February 15 at the LA Clippers’ venue in Inglewood, California.

Gilgeous-Alexander had to withdraw due to a strained abdominal muscle. This season, Sengun is averaging 20.8 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 6.3 assists for the Rockets.

The selection of injury replacements is made by NBA commissioner Adam Silver. The initial 10 All-Stars are determined through a weighted voting system involving fans, media, and current NBA players, while the 14 reserve players are selected by the league’s head coaches through balloting.

Last week, Silver also included the Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard in the All-Star roster. Leonard was added to ensure that the total number of U.S. All-Stars met the required 16 for the new U.S. vs. The World format, guaranteeing that each team would have at least eight players.

The event features two U.S. teams and one World team. The teams will compete in a round-robin tournament, followed by a final match between the top two teams. Each of the four games will be played for 12 minutes, equivalent to one standard NBA quarter.

Sengun is among only two All-Stars from Turkey, with Mehmet Okur being the other, who received his sole All-Star selection in 2007.
