LONDON — Three tennis athletes from South America are able to continue their careers after being exonerated by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in connection with a doping inquiry related to tainted meat.
Conner Huertas del Pino (Peru), Mateo Barreiros Reyes (Brazil), and Andres Urrea (Colombia) all tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid boldenone while participating in an ATP Challenger event in Bogota, Colombia, in May of the previous year.
The ITIA stated that the players had unknowingly ingested contaminated meat and that they submitted evidence and documentation to substantiate their claims, which included detailed receipts and information regarding the source of the meat consumed during the tournament.
The ITIA revealed its conclusions on Wednesday.
