MELBOURNE, Australia — Jessica Pegula triumphed over fellow American Amanda Anisimova with a score of 6-2, 7-6 (1) on Wednesday, securing her place in the Australian Open semifinals where she will face Elena Rybakina.

Pegula previously overcame Madison Keys, another American and the reigning champion, in her last match to reach the quarterfinals.

In the earlier quarterfinal match at Rod Laver Arena, Rybakina defeated Iga Swiatek with a score of 7-5, 6-1.

Pegula aims to capture her first Grand Slam title, while Rybakina seeks her second after winning Wimbledon in 2022. In the other semifinal on Thursday, top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka will compete against Elina Svitolina.

Pegula displayed near perfection in the first set, concluding it with an ace. The second set proved to be more competitive, with both players breaking each other’s serve twice.
