Iga Swiatek parts ways with coach following disappointing defeat at Miami Open

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek has announced her separation from her coach following her unexpected first-round exit at the Miami Open, she stated on Monday.
In an Instagram post, the world No. 3 revealed her departure from Wim Fissette, who had been her coach since 2024 and helped her secure her first Wimbledon title last year.
Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam titleholder, mentioned that she has “chosen to pursue a different direction.”
“I am thankful for his guidance, expertise, and all that we accomplished together — including one of my greatest aspirations in sports.”
The 24-year-old athlete from Poland lost in three sets to world No. 50 Magda Linette in Miami last week. This defeat concluded her streak of 73 consecutive opening-round victories on tour.
“Miami was tough for me. I feel disappointment, bitterness, and a sense of responsibility for my performance on the court, of course,” she expressed.
Swiatek confirmed that the remainder of her team would stay the same.
“I understand there are many inquiries, but I will share what comes next at the appropriate time. I am taking a moment to focus on myself, reflect on this experience, and prepare for a new chapter,” she stated.
Fissette has a history of coaching numerous elite players, including Naomi Osaka, Kim Clijsters, and Victoria Azarenka.
