It is evident that the Czech challenge continues to trouble Alex Eala.

In the round of 16 at the 2026 Miami Open, the Filipina faced a commanding defeat, losing 6-0, 6-2 to 14th seed Karolína Muchová early Tuesday morning (Philippine time).

For the second consecutive WTA 1000 event, a Czech player has halted Eala’s progress. Linda Nosková had previously eliminated her in the Round of 16 at Indian Wells, leaving Eala with a concerning 0-12 record against players from the Czech Republic.

From the very first point, Muchová took charge, breaking Eala in the opening game and maintaining her dominance throughout the match.

The only moments of resistance from Eala occurred in the middle of the second set, when she managed to hold serve in the fifth and seventh games. These brief successes highlighted improved first-serve accuracy and a more assertive approach to shot selection, but by that time, the disparity had already been firmly established.

This disparity was particularly clear in the serve-and-return statistics, where Muchová outperformed Eala. The 2026 Doha Open champion secured 80% of her first-serve points, in contrast to Eala’s 39%, and won 64% of first-serve return points compared to Eala’s 20% – indicating her dominance on both sides of the rallies.

Consequently, Eala is unable to match her impressive semifinal performance in Miami from the previous year, a result that will cost her 270 ranking points and likely result in a drop toward the mid-40s in the WTA rankings.

With her Sunshine Swing campaign concluded, she will now turn her attention to the clay season, where she is anticipated to begin her Clay-Court swing at the 2026 Linz Open in April.
