Six Nations: England’s Alex Mitchell ruled out of tournament due to injury

Alex Mitchell has been sidelined for England’s last two fixtures of the Six Nations due to a hamstring injury.
Mitchell played for 24 minutes during the 42-21 loss to Ireland at Allianz Stadium on Saturday and will not participate in the match against Italy on March 7 or the game against France the following week.
Jack van Poortvliet, who took over for Mitchell against Andy Farrell’s team, is the leading candidate to start at scrum-half in Rome, with Raffi Quirke being called up to the squad as a replacement.

“Alex has undergone scans and consulted with the appropriate specialists,” head coach Steve Borthwick stated. “He’ll be unavailable for several weeks, regrettably, so he won’t participate in the rest of this championship.”
Centre Ollie Lawrence is uncertain for the trip to the Stadio Olimpico after receiving a knee injection following his return from the same injury against Ireland.
