MILAN – The U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team is set to compete in the gold-medal match of the Olympic tournament today against Canada at Santaguilia Ice Arena. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. local/8:10 a.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast live on NBC or Peacock.
The U.S. aims to secure gold for the first time since 1980 and for only the third time overall, following the 1960 team that achieved the nation’s inaugural gold medal in men’s ice hockey.

“We’re thrilled about the chance to compete for gold,” stated Mike Sullivan, head coach of the 2026 Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team. “It will feature two outstanding hockey teams facing off and a fantastic conclusion to the Olympic hockey tournament.”
Team USA reached the gold-medal match following a 6-2 victory over Slovakia in the semifinals. Jack Hughes netted two goals, including the decisive one, while Zach Werenski contributed three assists, aiding the U.S. in their triumph.
Canada came back to secure a 3-2 victory against Finland in its semifinal yesterday after being down 2-0.
Connor Hellebuyck will start in goal for the U.S. and currently leads the Olympic tournament in both save percentage (.947) and goals against average (1.23). He has participated in all but one game for Team USA and holds a record of 4-0.
Quinn Hughes heads a well-rounded U.S. offensive lineup with one goal and six assists, while four players have accumulated six points each, including Jack Hughes (3-3—6), Auston Matthews (3-3—6), Jack Eichel (2-4—6), and Matthew Tkachuk (0-6—6).
