MILAN – The U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team, featuring six different goal scorers and a multi-point effort from Jack Eichel (North Chelmsford, Mass./Vegas Golden Knights) (1g, 1a), triumphed over Denmark, 6-3, during the preliminary round of the 2026 Olympic Winter Games at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena.
“I felt we improved as the game progressed,” stated Mike Sullivan, head coach of the U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Team. “I appreciate the resilience shown by our team, particularly their response following the first period.”
Denmark’s Nick Olseson opened the scoring just 1:40 into the match, redirecting a shot that deflected off a U.S. defender and into the net.
Matt Boldy (Millis, Mass./Minnesota Wild) equalized 1:55 later, maneuvering past Danish defenders to retrieve his own rebound and netting a wraparound goal. He was assisted by Quinn Hughes (Canton, Mich./Minnesota Wild) and Jaccob Slavin (Erie, Colo./Carolina Hurricanes).
Nicholas Jensen restored Denmark’s lead at 11:16 with a wrist shot from center ice.

Brady Tkachuk (St. Louis, Mo./Ottawa Senators) leveled the score at 9:26 of the second period, firing a wrist shot from the top of the left faceoff circle past Danish goalie Mads Sogaard following a successful offensive draw by Eichel.
Eichel then put Team USA ahead for the first time just 57 seconds later, scoring directly off a faceoff to give his team a 3-2 lead.
Noah Hanifin (Norwood, Mass./Vegas Golden Knights) extended the U.S. advantage at 17:23, launching a quick shot that slipped through the five-hole of Sogaard after being blocked by a Danish defender.
Denmark narrowed the gap with three seconds left in the period when Phillip Bruggisser found the net.
Jake Guentzel (Woodbury, Minn./Tampa Bay Lightning) restored the two-goal lead for the U.S. at 7:24 of the third period, scoring with a one-timer after a setup from Auston Matthews (Scottsdale, Ariz./Toronto Maple Leafs).
Team USA increased its lead to 6-3 at 14:27, as Jack Hughes (Canton, Mich./New Jersey Devils) banked the puck off the skate of Danish goalie Fredrik Dichow from behind the goal line into the net.
U.S. goaltender Jeremy Swayman (Anchorage, Alaska/Boston Bruins) secured his first Olympic win, making 18 saves.
Team USA will return to the ice on Sunday (Feb. 15) for its final preliminary round match against Germany. The puck is set to drop at Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena at 9:10 p.m. CET (3:10 p.m. ET), with the game available on USA Network and streaming on Peacock.
NOTES: Team USA outshot Denmark, 47-21 … The U.S. was 0-1 on the power play, while Denmark finished 0-3.
