WINDSOR, Ont. – Team USA, propelled by three-point contributions from Wyatt Cullen (Moorhead, Minn.) (1g, 2a) and Mikey Berchild (Excelsior, Minn.) (3a), triumphed over Canada, 7-2, in the concluding match of the 2026 World Junior Summer Showcase at WFCU Centre.
U.S. goaltender Ryder Fetterolf (Sewickley, Pa.) executed four impressive saves, including a breakaway stop in the final minute of Team USA’s initial penalty kill with 11:15 left in the first period, maintaining a scoreless tie.
Fetterolf thwarted another significant Canadian power-play opportunity with 6:35 remaining, moving across his crease to prevent a one-timer from Braeden Cootes from entering the net.
Cullen nearly opened the scoring on a power play with 5:34 to go, maneuvering through defenders to create a chance from the slot, but his attempt was denied by Canadaβs Lucas Beckman.
Team USA took the lead at 1:32 of the second period, as Sammy Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) netted a shorthanded goal, capitalizing on a breakaway after forcing a turnover in the defensive zone.
Fetterolf again showcased his skills at 2:33, stopping a one-timer from the slot with his mask to keep the U.S. in front.
Canada leveled the score at 3:58, with Ethan Belchetz scoring on a shot from the slot following a U.S. turnover. Dima Zhilkin then gave Canada a 2-1 advantage at 7:27 with a deflected shot.
Ethan Wyttenbach (Roslyn, N.Y.) answered just 26 seconds later, scoring from near the crease after a cross-ice pass from Cullen to tie the game at 2-2.
Teddy Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.) nearly provided the U.S. with its second shorthanded goal of the match with 8:50 left, but his breakaway attempt hit the post.

Wyttenbach scored his second goal of the match, this time on the power play, at 13:22, finding the net after receiving a pass from Berchild to restore the U.S. lead.
Sean Barnhill (Scottsdale, Ariz.) extended the U.S. advantage with 2:49 remaining, firing a shot from the right hashmarks past Beckman to give his team a 4-2 lead.
Team USA added another goal with 39 seconds left, as Brooks Rogowski (Brighton, Mich.) converted on a 2-on-1 opportunity, beating Beckman with a shot from the right circle.
Cullen increased the U.S. lead at 4:25 of the third period, scoring on a rebound chance in front of Beckmanβs goal. Blake Fiddler (Frisco, Texas) capped the scoring at 8:33, netting a shot from the left faceoff circle to finalize the score at 7-2.
Fetterolf concluded the game with 34 saves in the victory.
