Team USA Defeats Norway 10-0 in Pre-Tournament Match
BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – With four points each from Logan Stuart (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) and Jamie Glance (Stratham, N.H.), the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team defeated Norway, 10-0, this afternoon at Vladimir Dzurilla Ice Arena during pre-tournament action in preparation for the 2026 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship.
“I’m pleased with how our team came out and set the pace early on,” stated Nick Fohr (Grand Forks, N.D.), head coach of the U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team. “It was encouraging to see contributions from the entire lineup. There are still aspects we need to improve, but this was a positive step as we continue our preparations for Finland.”
The U.S. will face Finland in its second and final pre-tournament game on Sunday (April 19) at Vladimir Dzurilla Ice Arena, with puck drop scheduled for 8:00 a.m. ET.
The teams exchanged control of the puck in each zone, but Sammy Nelson (Maple Grove, Minn.) opened the scoring for the U.S. at 7:35 of the first period. After Carter Meyer (Winchester, Mass.) tied up a Norway forward, he passed the puck to Casey Mutryn (Norwell, Mass.). Mutryn quickly sent it to Nelson, who maneuvered past the defense and slid it past Norway’s starting goaltender Felix Timraz-Westin.
Team USA continued to build momentum as Stuart netted a power-play goal at 11:12 of the first. The U.S. advanced from the blue line, with AJ Francisco (Hermantown, Minn.) circulating the puck in the offensive zone. Glance retrieved the puck at the blue line and passed it to Stuart, who navigated around defenders and scored.
Victor Plante (Hermantown, Minn.) also got on the scoresheet with a goal at 15:10 of the opening period. Glance and Stuart each recorded their second point of the period with assists, as Stuart, from behind the net, set up Plante in the slot, who then scored past Timraz-Westin.
The U.S. started the second period with three goals in just 1:01. Stuart scored his second goal of the game, followed by two goals from Tyler Martyniuk (Washington Twp., Mich) and Lukas Zajic (Plainfield, Ill.) for their first goals of the night. Mutryn capped off the four-goal period with a shorthanded goal at 16:39 against Maximilliam Vatn Aas, who replaced Timraz-Westin.
Meyer increased Team USA’s lead to eight with a power-play goal in the third, followed by Brooks Rogowski’s (Brighton, Mich.) first goal of the game, making it 9-0 at 7:17. Francisco completed the scoring at 16:35, bringing the final tally to 10-0 in favor of Team USA.
Brady Knowling (Chicago, Ill.) started in goal for Team USA, playing the first period and stopping all five shots he faced. Luke Carrithers (Maple Grove, Minn.) played 35:55 in goal, saving nine shots, while Eli Winters (Muskegon, Mich.) played the final 14:05 and turned aside three shots.
