Declan Farmer Chosen as Winter Athlete Representative on IPC Athletes’ Council
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Declan Farmer (Tampa, Fla.), the alternate captain of the gold-medal winning 2026 U.S. Paralympic Sled Hockey Team, has been chosen to serve on the International Paralympic Committee Athletes’ Council as a representative for winter athletes.
Farmer joins fellow sled hockey player, Canada’s Tyler McGregor, along with para alpine skier Adam Hall from New Zealand, as the three winter athlete representatives on the Council. Their term will last for the next four years, concluding with the 2030 Paralympic Winter Games.
Farmer was selected by his fellow Paralympians through an athlete vote during the 2026 Paralympics. The Council consists of 12 athletes, which includes three winter athletes, six summer athletes, two appointed members, and a representative from the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
The function of the Athletes’ Council is to offer feedback and guidance to the IPC Governing Board, report on IPC issues on behalf of fellow athletes, and engage with the athlete community.
The Tampa, Fla., native is a four-time Paralympic gold medalist and a five-time World Para Ice Hockey Championship gold medalist, having been part of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team since his debut at the age of 14 during the 2012-13 season.
Recently, Farmer established new all-time records for single-tournament goals (15) and points (26) at the 2026 Paralympics and was honored as the tournament MVP. He holds the all-time records for career goals (255), assists (191), and points (446) for Team USA.
A 2020 graduate of Princeton University and a member of USA Hockey’s Board of Directors, Farmer’s career achievements include the 2023 Para Sport Award for Best Male Athlete, the 2021-22 USA Hockey Bob Johnson Award for excellence in international hockey competition for a specific season, and the 2014 ESPY Award for Best Male Athlete with a Disability.
