For 17 years, Rory McIlroy yearned to secure his first green jacket at the Masters. A year later, he is ensuring that those who came before him will depart the Champions Dinner satisfied.

One of the numerous traditions associated with the Masters is that the reigning champion has the privilege of selecting the menu for the Masters Club Dinner prior to the subsequent tournament at Augusta National. This meal was initiated by Ben Hogan in 1952, and only previous winners are invited, with the sole current exception being Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley.

McIlroy’s dinner, scheduled for April 7, will commence with four appetizers: peach and ricotta flatbread, rock shrimp tempura, bacon-wrapped dates, and grilled elk sliders.

Once appetites have been stimulated, McIlroy has chosen yellowfin tuna carpaccio for his first course. The main course will offer a selection of wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon, accompanied by sautéed Brussels sprouts, glazed carrots with brown butter, and crispy Vidalia onion rings.

To conclude the meal, McIlroy has requested sticky toffee pudding paired with vanilla ice cream and warm toffee sauce.

Following an evening of fellowship and celebration, McIlroy — along with the others — will have another day of practice before returning to the serious task of attempting to win another green jacket.

The Masters commences on April 9 (TV: ESPN, 3 p.m.-7:30 p.m.).
