DOHA, Qatar — Patrick Reed maintained his impressive form in the Middle East on Thursday, recording six birdies in the first eight holes and concluding with a 7-under 65, which placed him in a tie for the lead with Daniel Hiller at the Qatar Masters.

Reed previously secured victory at the Dubai Desert Classic and narrowly missed out in a playoff at the Bahrain Championship last week, elevating him to No. 2 in the Race to Dubai standings.

Initially, Reed planned to be approximately 350 miles away this week in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to commence another season with LIV Golf. However, after failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension, he became the second significant departure from the Saudi-backed league, following Brooks Koepka.

If Reed finishes among the top 10 players in the Race to Dubai who do not already have exemptions, he could qualify for a full PGA Tour card for 2027. Each round brings him closer to this goal, and he has yet to participate in the four majors this year.

Padraig Harrington, on the other hand, began with a 71 at Doha Golf Club, marking a notable milestone as it was his 500th career appearance on the European Tour.
