The DP World Tour issued conditional releases on Saturday to eight of its members, allowing them to participate in LIV Golf League events this season, but former world No. 1 Jon Rahm is not included in this group.
It remains unclear whether Rahm declined the offer from the DP World Tour, which had previously sanctioned him and others for competing in LIV tournaments without the necessary releases.
Previously, Rahm indicated that he did not plan to pay the fines, which are reportedly as high as $3 million.
The DP World Tour announced that releases were granted to Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig, and Elvis Smylie to take part in the LIV Golf League this season.
A statement from the DP World Tour on Saturday indicated that the golfers had consented to pay all outstanding fines for breaching the tour’s regulations; participate in more tournaments than the required four to maintain their membership; and withdraw all pending appeals.
Rahm, Hatton, and Meronk appealed their sanctions in September, which allowed them to continue competing in DP World Tour events. The trio faced disciplinary action for participating in LIV Golf events that coincided with tournaments on the European circuit.
This appeal enabled Hatton and Rahm to be part of the victorious European Ryder Cup team that triumphed over the U.S. 15-13 at Bethpage Black Course in New York in September.
It is not known when a third-party arbiter will address Rahm’s appeal. His case must be resolved for him to take part in the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland.
“The conditions these members have accepted will provide additional value to the DP World Tour and benefit the entire membership,” the DP World Tour statement noted. “As long as each member fulfills the conditions of their individual releases, no disciplinary measures under the Regulations will be imposed on them for participating in conflicting tournaments on LIV Golf in 2026, and they will maintain their membership status.”
The DP World Tour clarified that the releases are applicable only for the 2026 season and do not set a precedent.
In January, PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy encouraged Rahm and Hatton, his Ryder Cup teammates, to pay the fines to rejoin the DP World Tour.
“I believe any organization or members’ organization like this has the right to enforce its rules and regulations,” McIlroy stated to reporters at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. “What the DP World Tour is doing is enforcing its rules and regulations. We, as members, sign a document at the beginning of each year, agreeing to these rules and regulations.
“Those who chose to join LIV were aware of what they were doing. Therefore, I don’t see any issue with that.”
