Collin Morikawa limps to a tie for seventh at the Masters 1

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Collin Morikawa expressed his excitement about finishing tied for seventh at the Masters with a score of 9-under 279 after contending with a back injury and spasms.

Morikawa had to withdraw from the Players Championship last month after just one hole due to back discomfort. He entered the Masters not at his peak performance, recording a score of 74 in the opening round. However, he rebounded with three consecutive rounds in the 60s, all while clearly managing discomfort that impacted his swing.

“Trust me, it’s going to be one of the best tournaments forever,” Morikawa stated. “I’m going to remember this one for many reasons, but just more how strong the mind is, to be able to go out and convince yourself that everything is going to be OK.”

Morikawa achieved five consecutive birdies on the back nine on Sunday, finishing with his second straight score of 68.
