CARSON, Calif. — Mount Pleasant, a club from the Jamaican Premier League, is preparing to compete without as many as 10 players on Wednesday when they face the LA Galaxy of MLS in a Concacaf Champions Cup encounter.

The cause: These players, including six from Haiti, were unable to secure visas to enter the U.S. for the match, according to Jamaican officials.

Officials announced on Monday that the match will proceed as planned, even as the Jamaican team — which intends to incorporate younger players from their academy if needed — and Concacaf work towards a resolution.

The U.S. has travel restrictions affecting citizens from certain countries, including Haiti, although there are provisions that may assist athletes in specific situations.

The Jamaican club has been addressing this issue since at least last week, seemingly without success.

This match marks the first leg of a two-leg round of 16 matchup in the tournament, with the return leg scheduled to take place in Kingston, Jamaica on March 19.

Last year’s champion Cruz Azul defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 5-0 in the final.
