Trinity Rodman is “fine” and fully participating in training with the United States women’s national team, USWNT head coach Emma Hayes stated on Tuesday, alleviating concerns that Rodman had re-injured her back during Sunday’s 2-0 SheBelieves Cup victory over Argentina.
Hayes also mentioned that USWNT defender Lilly Reale is dealing with a foot injury and has departed from training camp. Reale came off the bench on Sunday but had to be substituted shortly thereafter due to her injury.
Rodman sustained her injury in the second half’s stoppage time when Milagros Martín challenged her from behind.
Rodman fell to the ground while clutching her lower back and received several minutes of medical assistance.
She eventually got up and spoke with the trainers on the sidelines, but did not return to the field for the remaining minutes of play.
Hayes did not offer additional information regarding Rodman’s situation during the match. The 23-year-old Rodman has experienced back issues for several years.
Last year, Rodman was sidelined for nearly four months due to persistent back problems and the NWSL’s summer break.
She scored shortly after her return in August and quickly regained full fitness.
However, Rodman sprained her MCL in October, which significantly reduced her playing time for the Washington Spirit during the playoffs.
Rodman, who recently re-signed with the Spirit for what sources indicate is the largest contract globally, also experienced a significant back flare-up in late 2024 that impacted her during that playoff series.
Rodman made her return to the USWNT in January for the first time since April 2025.
Her appearance off the bench on Sunday in the opening match of the SheBelieves Cup marked only her fourth for the United States since contributing to the team’s gold medal win at the 2024 Olympics.
The United States is set to face Canada on Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio, during the second matchday of the three-game SheBelieves Cup.
