USMNT’s Johnny Cardoso of Atlético sidelined for one week due to muscle injury.

Midfielder Johnny Cardoso of the United States men’s national team has sustained a low-grade muscle injury during a training session on Wednesday and will be sidelined for a minimum of one week, as announced by Atlético Madrid on Thursday.
Cardoso will be unavailable for the club’s Copa del Rey quarterfinal match against Real Betis, his previous team.
The club indicated that Cardoso exited Wednesday’s training due to discomfort, with Koke Resurrección taking his place for the drills conducted by manager Diego Simeone.
Medical evaluations confirmed Cardoso’s injury, which will also prevent him from participating in the upcoming LaLiga match against Betis on Sunday at Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium.
At 24 years old, Cardoso joins Alexander Sørloth on Atlético’s list of injured players. Sørloth sustained a head injury last Saturday in a match against Levante.
Atlético acquired forward Ademola Lookman from Atalanta during the January transfer window, along with midfielders Obed Vargas and Rodrigo Mendoza from Seattle Sounders FC and Elche, respectively.
