Serie A: Inter loses ground in championship pursuit, Como strengthens position for UCL qualification 1

Inter Milan is entering the international break with a four-match winless run across all competitions, resulting in a reduction of their Serie A lead to six points.

Cher Ndour scored a rebound late in the second half, securing a 1-1 draw for relegation-threatened Fiorentina against visiting Inter on Sunday.

Pio Esposito had given Inter the lead with a header just under a minute into the match.

Inter remains six points ahead of second-placed AC Milan, who triumphed over Inter in a derby two weeks prior and defeated Torino on Saturday; they are also seven points ahead of defending champions Napoli, who secured a victory at Cagliari on Friday, marking their fourth consecutive win.

With eight matches left in the Italian league, Fiorentina has moved two points clear of the relegation zone.

In other news, Como has taken control of a Champions League position after a commanding 5-0 victory over relegation-threatened Pisa, marking their fifth consecutive win.

This win propelled Cesc Fabregas’ team three points ahead of fifth-placed Juventus, who were held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo on Saturday.

Goals for the hosts were scored by Assane Diao, Anastasios Douvikas, Martin Baturina, Nico Paz, and Maximo Perrone.

Douvikas’ 11th goal of the season made him the first Como player to reach that tally in the top division since Giuseppe Baldini scored 13 and Renato Cattaneo netted 11 in the 1951-52 season.

Como’s victory came just three days after the passing of one of Como’s owners, Indonesian tobacco magnate Michael Bambang Hartono, at the age of 86.

Hartono and his brother, Roberto Budi Hartono, acquired Como in 2019 when the club was competing in Italy’s fourth tier.

Como made their return to Serie A in 2024 for the first time in over twenty years.
