Senne Lammens stabilizes defense in goal as Manchester United secures victory

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick expressed strong admiration for goalkeeper Senne Lammens following a 1-0 victory over Everton in the Premier League on Monday.
Lammens achieved his first away clean sheet for United since last March and was a significant presence in goal throughout the match at Hill Dickinson Stadium, contributing to Carrick’s team moving past Chelsea into fourth place in the Premier League.
“For me, a goalkeeper needs to be dependable and trustworthy,” Carrick remarked after the match. “Instead of causing chaos, you want him to eliminate it and bring calm. I believe Senne accomplishes that.”
Everton attempted to apply pressure on Lammens by positioning several players near him during a series of corners in the second half, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Toffees manager David Moyes acknowledged that the strategy did not succeed.
“The goalkeeper was absolutely brilliant. The save he made from Michael Keane, the way he handled the corners,” former Man United coach Moyes stated. “We hoped we would have capitalized on the pressure we created in those situations.
“I thought we would score, but we didn’t. For me, he was the standout player on the pitch.”
United faced challenges in their attacking play throughout the match, but with the score tied at 0-0, Benjamin Sesko entered the game and changed its course by finishing a swift counterattack to secure all three points for his team.
Sesko has netted six goals in his last seven matches, yet he has not yet secured a spot in the starting lineup. While Carrick noted that there might be some frustration for the £66 million ($89 million) summer acquisition, the 22-year-old did not express any complaints.
“I understand why everyone is discussing it and making it a bigger issue, but I have a very good relationship with Ben,” Carrick said. “I have no concerns with Ben, and he has no issues. He clearly wants to play, but I cannot praise enough how he has been, the effort he is putting in, and his attitude in coming on and performing as he did again.
“We’ve had some excellent discussions, and he’s in a very good place. Part of our role is to assist him in his development and growth as a player.
“Sometimes that involves small steps, and other times larger ones, and he has made significant progress recently. That is wonderful to witness.”
United and Carrick, who has not experienced a defeat since taking over from Ruben Amorim, will host Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on March 1 for their next Premier League fixture.
Everton have secured only four victories in their 14 Premier League matches at their new stadium, and Moyes acknowledges that his team is still adjusting.
He stated: “I believe there is likely a transition — other teams come here and find it enjoyable.
“There are aspects that are different, and we need to acclimate.
“However, I think our performances are better than at Goodison. Our team is improved this year, and it wasn’t as if we were winning every match at Goodison, to be honest.”
