UEFA has imposed a fine on Real Madrid and mandated a suspended partial closure of the Bernabéu following an incident where a supporter was recorded seemingly making a Nazi salute within the stadium.

The European governing body revealed that the club is required to pay €15,000 (£13,000/$17,400) due to the “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour of its supporters.”

Furthermore, the LaLiga team has been instructed to close 500 adjacent seats in the lower south stand of the Bernabéu for one match in UEFA competition.

The partial closure of the stadium has been suspended for a probationary period of one year.

This incident occurred before Real Madrid’s recent Champions League win against Benfica.

The club stated that they have identified the supporter involved and have expelled them from the venue.

“Real Madrid condemns this type of gesture and expression that incites violence and hatred in sports and society,” the club remarked at that time.

A week before the Bernabéu incident, Madrid forward Vinícius Júnior claimed he was subjected to racial abuse by Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni.

Prestianni was later suspended for one match as UEFA looked into the matter, a suspension that was maintained following an appeal from Benfica.

This marks the second recent sanction issued by UEFA in response to alleged Nazi salutes during Champions League matches.

Tottenham Hotspur faced a fine of €30,000 (£26,200/$35,100) after one of their supporters was seen making the gesture during a match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
