Fenerbahce has announced the acquisition of ex-Leicester and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kanté.

The French international appeared set to remain at Al Ittihad after negotiations stalled on Tuesday, with Fenerbahce attributing the breakdown of the deal to the Saudi club.

The Turkish club stated that Al Ittihad did not adhere to FIFA regulations regarding the registration of transfers.

Nevertheless, Al Ittihad subsequently shared a farewell message to Kanté on X, indicating they had consented to sell the remaining duration of his contract.

Kanté, 34, makes his return to European football after moving to the Saudi Pro League in 2023.

He secured consecutive Premier League titles with Leicester and Chelsea in 2016 and 2017, and also claimed a Champions League title with the London club.

The midfielder was part of France’s squad that won the World Cup in 2018.

He is the second French midfielder to join Fenerbahce during this transfer window, following the arrival of former Arsenal player Matteo Guendouzi to Istanbul.
