Mascherano resigns from his position as Inter Miami head coach, just months following the MLS championship.

Javier Mascherano has resigned from his position as head coach of Inter Miami, merely four months after leading the team to its inaugural MLS Cup championship.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Miami announced that the Argentine coach had stepped down due to “personal reasons.”
“I want to inform everyone that, for personal reasons, I have chosen to conclude my role as head coach of Inter Miami CF,” Mascherano stated in his announcement.
“First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the Club for the confidence they placed in me, to every staff member within the organization for their collective effort, and especially to the players, who enabled us to share unforgettable experiences.”
Currently, Miami is positioned third in the Eastern Conference after seven matches of the 2026 season, but they were eliminated from the Concacaf Champions Cup by Nashville SC.
“Javier will always be a part of this Club’s legacy and will hold a unique place within the Inter Miami CF family,” said Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas. “This is not only due to his significant role in remarkable accomplishments, such as winning the MLS Cup and the team’s historic run at the Club World Cup, but also for the standard he set through his commitment and daily efforts in leading the team.
“We honor his decision and are profoundly appreciative of all he has contributed, wishing him nothing but the best in his professional and personal endeavors.”
