Manchester City marks Lunar New Year with a unique kit

Continuing a growing club tradition, Manchester City has once again introduced a special-edition jersey to mark the Lunar New Year.
The newest version, celebrating the upcoming Year of the Fire Horse, which commences on Feb. 17 this year, features perhaps the most striking design to date.
The prematch shirt showcases hand-drawn horse designs in a classic Chinese ink and watercolor style. The outcome is a rich, nearly camouflage-like pattern composed of various equine figures.

According to manufacturers Puma, the Fire Horse artwork symbolizes strength, motion, and unyielding determination—three vital traits that City will need to harness if they aim to overtake leaders Arsenal at the top of the Premier League this season. When in doubt, simply apply more horsepower.
The badges and logos are rendered in beige with metallic gold accents, adding an extra touch of luxury, appropriate for a lunar year that occurs only once every 60 years.
The broader “Horse Capsule” collection from Manchester City also features an anthem jacket with a more understated design, a t-shirt displaying a galloping blue horse, and a baseball cap.
City launched their inaugural Lunar New Year kit in 2023—the Year of the Rabbit—with a unique shirt inspired by the moon’s surface. This was particularly fitting, as the song “Blue Moon” serves as a club anthem.
The Year of the Dragon kit followed in 2024, which included a light grey design adorned with hand-drawn wood carvings of the mythical creature encircling the wearer’s torso.
We look forward to seeing what City will create for the next year of the lunisolar calendar—the Year of the Goat, which begins on Feb. 6, 2027.
