Lyon's Endrick addresses Karim Benzema comparison: 'He is far more advanced' 1

Endrick is eager to emulate Karim Benzema at Lyon but acknowledges that the French star is “light years ahead” of him.

The Brazilian teenager has netted five goals in five matches since his loan move to Lyon from Real Madrid in December, drawing parallels to the 2022 Ballon d’Or recipient Benzema, who excelled for Les Gones earlier in his career.

Endrick, 19, found the net in Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over Laval, which secured Lyon’s place in the Coupe de France quarterfinals.

When questioned about the comparisons to Benzema afterwards, he remarked: “It’s very good for me because he’s a great player, an incredible player, who was the best in the world.

“But Karim is light-years ahead of me. I hope he does well at Al Hilal. I’m very happy to be here, where Karim played.”

Benzema, 38, developed at Lyon and contributed to their four Ligue 1 titles before transferring to Madrid in 2009, where he accumulated 25 trophies. This includes four LaLiga titles, three Copa del Rey victories, and five Champions League titles.

A runner-up in the 2022 World Cup, Benzema joined Saudi Pro League (SPL) leaders Al Hilal on Monday after aiding Al Ittihad in winning the league and the King’s Cup last season.
