Liverpool’s recent summer acquisition Jérémy Jacquet has suffered a “serious” shoulder injury, as reported by Rennes head coach Habib Beye.

The 20-year-old experienced a fall during the second half of a 3-1 loss to Lens in Ligue 1 and seemed to be in significant pain while exiting the field.

– What will defender Jérémy Jacquet contribute to Liverpool this summer?

“For Jeremy, it’s his shoulder, and for Abdelhamid [Ait Boudlal, the other injured Rennes player] it’s a muscular issue,” Beye stated in his post-match comments.

“We will have time to assess the situation, but it is certainly quite serious for both of them.”

Liverpool overcame competition from Chelsea to finalize a deal for the highly regarded France under-21 centre-back for £55 million ($74m) plus an additional £5m in performance-related bonuses on July 1, securing him on a five-year contract with an option for an extra year.

“Very satisfying, of course,” was Reds head coach Arne Slot’s assessment of the agreement.

“He possesses significant talent and perhaps even more than just talent, but we refer to talent due to his age.

“We were not the only club interested in him. This is another major compliment to the individuals working diligently to acquire players, as we managed to sign such a remarkable talent.”
