Ivan Toney is aspiring to secure a World Cup victory with England as he seeks to earn a place in Thomas Tuchel’s roster.

The 29-year-old striker for Al Ahli has netted 20 goals in the Saudi Pro League this season, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo by two goals. He last represented England in a friendly against Senegal in June of the previous year and was part of the squad that finished as runners-up at Euro 2024.

When asked about the significance of being selected for Tuchel’s team in the United States, Canada, and Mexico this summer, Toney told Sky Sports News: “It would be a dream to play there. Everyone aspires to that, and just imagine if we were to win the World Cup? That would be for the nation.”

“You have these small visions of what could occur, these types of scenarios. If it were to materialize, it would be a significant blessing.”

Toney recognized that Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, whom he referred to as “the best finisher in football,” remains England’s primary choice, but he is optimistic about being a valuable alternative.

He stated: “My responsibility is to continue scoring goals, and hopefully that will enhance my chances of being included.”

There was surprise when Toney, then 28, transferred to Al Ahli from Brentford in the summer of 2024, and he acknowledges the possibility of returning to the Premier League in the future.

He remarked: “I never say never. I have objectives I want to accomplish here first, but in football and in life, you can never predict what lies ahead. You simply take it day by day, step by step. I hope to achieve something significant here first, and who knows what the next step may be?”
