BERGAMO, Italy — Alphonso Davies concealed his face with his shirt as he exited the pitch due to an injury during Bayern Munich’s match against Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, prompting concerns regarding the Canadian star’s fitness for the World Cup.

Davies dropped into a squatting position on the field following an apparent non-contact injury while attempting to play the ball with Bayern leading 6-0 in the 70th minute. He appeared to be in pain immediately, covering his face and gesturing with his arms in frustration.

His teammates surrounded the Canada left-back to shield him from view before he was assisted off the field by Bayern Munich staff, the collar of his shirt pulled up over his face.

Davies shielded his eyes with his hand as he was approached on the sidelines by substitute Tom Bischof and coach Vincent Kompany.

Davies played a crucial role for Canada during its return to the World Cup in 2022 and served as captain for the team at the 2024 Copa America, but he has faced challenges with injuries. He did not feature for Bayern until December this season after suffering an ACL tear in March 2025 during his last match for Canada.

Canada is set to co-host the World Cup in June and July alongside the United States and Mexico.

Bayern concluded the match with a 6-1 victory on Tuesday, highlighted by two goals from Michael Olise. The second leg of the last 16 tie will occur in Munich next week.
