Borussia Dortmund ‘evaluating’ Jadon Sancho in light of Man United ambiguity

Borussia Dortmund 'evaluating' Jadon Sancho in light of Man United ambiguity 1

The sporting director of Borussia Dortmund has indicated that the club is keeping an eye on Jadon Sancho and considering the advantages of bringing back the Manchester United winger for a third time.

Sancho, who is presently on loan at Aston Villa, will see his contract expire at the conclusion of this season. Although there is an option for the club to extend his contract for an additional year, sources have informed ESPN that United has shown no intention of activating it, suggesting that the English international may depart for free this summer.

Lars Ricken, Dortmund’s sporting managing director, stated to Sport Bild that they are in search of a player who can add “quality” to their attacking lineup, particularly with Germany international Julian Brandt set to leave the club when his contract concludes at the end of the season.

“We are currently evaluating numerous players and conducting analyses,” Ricken remarked.

“We are determining if they can enhance our squad. We are applying the same scrutiny to Jadon.”

“Naturally, we are in pursuit of an attacking player who offers quality, can assist us right away, and does not demand an unrealistic transfer fee.”

“In defense, we will be losing Niklas SΓΌle, and Emre Can will be unavailable for a period.”

“Thus, we are also considering that position.”

Sancho first made his mark at Dortmund in 2017 before transferring to United in a deal worth €85 million ($114m) in 2021.

He returned to the Bundesliga club on loan for the latter half of the 2023-24 season, then spent a year at Chelsea before moving to Villa at the beginning of this season.

This season, the winger has recorded one goal and three assists across 31 appearances.
