Barcelona’s squad expenditure limit has increased by nearly €100 million ($116m) to €433m ($501m), as announced by LaLiga on Tuesday, enhancing the Spanish champions’ prospects for squad investment this summer.

Real Madrid continues to hold the highest limit in the league at €761m ($880m), while Atlético Madrid ranks third behind their Clásico rivals with a cap of €336m ($389m).

Villarreal (€173m, $200m) and Athletic Club (€132m, $153m) round out the top five, whereas Levante (€17m, $19.6m), Sevilla (€22m, $25m), and Getafe (€34m, $39m) operate under the three lowest caps in the league.

The squad cost limits established by the league, which are disclosed following each transfer window, indicate the maximum amount each club is allowed to spend on first-team players, coaching staff, as well as reserve and youth teams.

Barcelona’s new limit signifies an increase of €82m ($95m) from the €351m ($406m) cap they had at the season’s outset, providing renewed optimism for potential signings.

The Catalan club remains above their limit, with club sources indicating that annual spending on the squad exceeds €500m ($579), but they are progressively approaching a break-even point.

Until that threshold is reached, league regulations restrict them to investing only a fraction of what they generate or save on new players.

Barcelona is currently in an electoral phase, lacking a permanent president; however, all three final candidates have asserted that the club will be positioned to make signings by summer.

Joan Laporta, who is aiming for reelection for a second consecutive term, has stated that the team’s return to Spotify Camp Nou will enhance their spending capacity, while Víctor Font mentioned he is already investigating “three or four” possible signings.

Marc Ciria, for his part, informed ESPN that Barcelona will be able to compete with any club if he is elected.

“Regarding signings, according to our financial plan, I anticipate that the situation will be fully normalized so that we can enter the market on equal footing with any other club or institution,” he told ESPN.

“Barcelona will have the ability to make significant signings again to aim for victory in the next five Champions Leagues—a competition we have not claimed in 11 years.”

ESPN has previously reported that Barcelona is eager to bolster various positions. A striker, a center-back, a left winger, and additional depth at full-back are all areas that club sources indicate will be prioritized.
