Atletico Madrid confirm agreement for Ademola Lookman from Atalanta
MADRID — Atlético Madrid announced they have finalized an agreement with Serie A club Atalanta to acquire Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman.
Lookman is currently in Madrid to finalize his contract, the Spanish team stated on Sunday.
“The agreement is contingent upon passing his medical examination and finalizing his contract,” Atlético mentioned, without providing additional specifics.
Lookman is scheduled to complete his medical on Monday.
The 28-year-old has previously played for Fulham and Leicester before joining Atalanta in 2022. He has also had stints with Leipzig and Everton.
Lookman netted three goals for Nigeria in the Africa Cup of Nations, where his team secured third place after losing to Morocco in a penalty shootout during the semifinals.
Atlético currently sits third in LaLiga, trailing second-place Real Madrid by nine points and leaders Barcelona by ten points after 22 matches.
Diego Simeone’s team will face Club Brugge in the Champions League playoffs later this month.
