Aston Villa considers permanent transfer for 'excellent' Jadon Sancho - Unai Emery 1

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has expressed his willingness to pursue a permanent transfer for Jadon Sancho.

The 25-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at Villa Park from Manchester United, where his contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season.

Sancho is poised to become a free agent this summer, and Emery indicated that he would be keen on retaining him at the club if he continues to progress following a sluggish start.

When asked during a press conference if he had contemplated the possibility of signing Sancho for the next season, Emery replied: “Not yet, but he is an exceptional player. We hope he can assist us by enhancing his skills within our framework as he has been doing.”

“He will require another contract, and perhaps it could be here. If he performs at his highest level, we will want him. However, other clubs may also show interest in him.”

A new deal at Old Trafford, if presented, would place him in competition with forwards such as Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Amad.

“This is football, and every match is crucial for each player and the future of the club, as we strive to meet our objectives,” Emery stated.

Sancho is expected to participate again as Villa faces Brighton on Wednesday, aiming to regain momentum in the pursuit of a top-five finish.

“The initial part of the season was insufficient,” Emery remarked regarding the winger’s performance thus far this season.

“He was putting in effort and trying, but not delivering the performance we required. Now he is improving. He is rising to the challenge for both himself and us.”
