Mayweather Jr. to come out of retirement, return to boxing following Tyson exhibition match.

Just a few days prior to his 49th birthday, Floyd Mayweather Jr. has revealed that he will come out of retirement and continue his professional boxing career following his Spring 2026 exhibition match with Mike Tyson.
Mayweather has entered into an exclusive partnership with CSI Sports/Fight Sports as his promoter.
“I still possess the ability to set additional records in the boxing arena,” Mayweather stated in a release to ESPN. “From my upcoming event with Mike Tyson to my subsequent professional fight, no one will draw a larger audience, have a more extensive global broadcast reach, or generate more revenue with each event than my events. I intend to keep doing this with my global media partner, CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS.”
Mayweather retired from boxing at the age of 40 after his knockout victory over MMA fighter Conor McGregor in August 2017, concluding his career with an impeccable record of 50-0, including 27 wins by knockout. Since then, he has participated in several exhibition matches against opponents such as Logan Paul, Mikuru Asakura, and John Gotti III.
It was announced last September that Mayweather and Tyson would face off in an exhibition match in Spring 2026. Reports have suggested that the fight may occur on April 25 in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but ESPN has not received confirmation regarding that date, and no network has been designated to broadcast the fight.
Mayweather has been in the headlines recently as he filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against Showtime earlier this month. He alleges that he is owed “at least” $340 million from his reported $1.2 billion in career fight earnings.
Mayweather would be returning to a sport featuring a completely new generation of competitors who are nearly half his age. However, the recent return of Manny Pacquiao to the professional ranks suggests that a highly anticipated rematch between the two fighters, following their 2015 encounter, could occur as a professional boxing match.
“Bringing Floyd Mayweather out of retirement after he attracts another global audience with his Mike Tyson matchup underscores our dedication to delivering the most prominent fighters in the sport to our worldwide audience,” said Richard and Craig Miele, co-founders of CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS®. “Floyd will once again dominate boxing with the largest audiences and highest-grossing events in history, and we are honored to achieve this with our global team at CSI Sports™/FIGHT SPORTS®. We anticipate further announcements that will thrill fans and continue to advance the sport in 2026!”
