Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. returned to the ring on Saturday, achieving a knockout victory following a challenging 2025, during which he suffered a lopsided defeat to Jake Paul and faced deportation to Mexico by federal authorities for overstaying his visa and providing false information on a green card application.

Chavez Jr. was sought in Mexico due to alleged connections with a drug cartel.

The son of renowned Mexican boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez made his comeback in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where he defeated Argentinian Angel Julian Sacco in the fourth round, allowing Chavez Jr. (55-7-1, 35 KOs) to regain momentum after a disappointing loss to Paul in Anaheim last June.

The former WBC middleweight champion was apprehended by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles shortly after his defeat to Paul and was processed for deportation due to an existing arrest warrant from 2023 linked to alleged associations with the Sinaloa Cartel. He was deported to Mexico in August, incarcerated in Hermosillo, Sonora, and subsequently released on bail while awaiting trial outside of police custody.

During his waiting period, Chavez Jr. opted to remain active in boxing and took on Sacco as a light heavyweight at Arena Coliseo. This marked his first victory in the boxing ring since he triumphed over former MMA fighter Uriah Hall in 2024.
