Eddie Hearn committed to assisting Tom Aspinall in regaining his confidence.

LONDON — Eddie Hearn has expressed his desire to assist Tom Aspinall in regaining his confidence following the signing of a business agreement with the UFC heavyweight champion.
Aspinall (15-3) revealed on Thursday that he has joined Hearn’s newly established Matchroom Talent Agency, indicating that the British promoter will oversee his career and business endeavors.
The fighter has not competed since October against Ciryl Gane, when the match was halted prematurely due to multiple eye pokes. He has since undergone eye surgery.
Hearn mentioned that during their initial conversation last week, he sensed that the UFC champion seemed to lack the enthusiasm typically found in a fighter of his caliber.
“Sometimes when I say it … I don’t want him to take offense, but when I first spoke to him, it felt like I was conversing with someone who didn’t recognize who he was or what he represented,” Hearn stated at a news conference on Friday.
“Which is a massive star. A massive global star, one of the most significant in combat sports.
“Essentially, the baddest man on the planet. Occasionally, a narrative can develop that one: diminishes your confidence and two: makes you feel like ‘I don’t really want to continue.’
“When I talked to him and he began discussing his injuries and the multiple surgeries, it was like: ‘mate, we need to recover from this and you must understand how significant you are.’
“I see a man who is eager to return to the ring and, I don’t want to say prove, he doesn’t need to prove, he’s faced everyone who’s come his way.”
Aspinall mentioned that he is still following his doctors’ advice but has resumed some light training and aims to return to the Octagon as soon as possible.
The 32-year-old expressed hope that by bringing Hearn on board, he can elevate his commercial value, especially since he has been sidelined recently.
“As athletes, we have a limited window of opportunity to earn substantial income. Given the circumstances of my career and my recent injuries, I want to maximize my earnings. I aim to secure my family’s future for generations,” Aspinall stated.
“It’s been incredibly challenging. It’s been difficult to be in my current situation with many people forming their opinions about you. I’m clearly looking to bounce back from that.”
Aspinall remains under contract with the UFC, and Hearn has indicated that there are no intentions to transition into boxing.
Nonetheless, Hearn’s rivalry with UFC president Dana White — who now also leads the Zuffa Boxing promotion — has escalated in recent weeks. White and Zuffa recently signed British fighter Conor Benn, whom Matchroom had identified as their most promising star for the future.
While there has been a continuous exchange of verbal disputes in the media between the two, Aspinall’s partnership with Hearn represents a significant victory for Matchroom, which will now engage with the UFC and White concerning Aspinall, one of the sport’s leading figures.
