Adam Azim’s matchup with Gustavo Lemos, set for January 31 in London, has been canceled due to injuries sustained by both fighters, as confirmed by Boxxer.

British fighter Azim (14-0, 11 KOs) was scheduled to face Argentine Lemos (29-2, 19 KOs) for the IBF No. 2 junior welterweight ranking at the Copperbox Arena.

Boxxer reported that Lemos initially suffered a hand injury, prompting the search for a replacement, but Azim subsequently incurred an injury as well.

The bout will be rescheduled, although a new date has yet to be announced.

However, the event next Saturday may still proceed with Francesca Hennessy’s bantamweight fight against unbeaten Brit Ellie Bouttell as the main attraction, sources have informed ESPN.

This contest is for the vacant WBC silver title, with the victor potentially set to face undisputed women’s bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson.

“The IBF No.2 eliminator, originally scheduled for Saturday, January 31, will be postponed after both fighters suffered injuries during training,” Boxxer stated in a release on Sunday.

“Lemos has had to withdraw due to a hand injury.

“A replacement opponent was arranged, but after an injury sustained in his last sparring session, scan results received yesterday confirmed that Azim is also unable to compete.

“The IBF No.2 eliminator between Azim and Lemos will be rescheduled for later this year.

“Further updates regarding BOXXER’s The World Awaits fight night next Saturday at the Copper Box Arena in London will be provided soon.”
