Warriors Withhold Porzingis' Salary as Trade Options Are Searched

Shams Charania and Anthony Slater report that the Golden State Warriors are holding back payments on Kristaps Porzingis’ $20 million salary because he is not providing services.

Despite these withheld payments, Golden State is reportedly looking to trade his contract before the February 11 deadline. The 31-year-old is believed to be inclined to conclude his NBA career.

Porzingis sat out the beginning of the season due to a health matter. Charania had previously stated that the Latvian was suffering from recurring postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) symptoms and was giving serious thought to his basketball future.

Teams looking for financial flexibility might find his near-expiring contract attractive. The report indicates that a team taking on Porzingis could shed salary and then seek a buyout to save money and create a roster vacancy.
