The Golden State Warriors have announced that star guard Stephen Curry will be sidelined for an additional 10 days due to a persistent issue with his right knee, according to sources who spoke with ESPN.

This extension will result in Curry missing at least five more games. He has already been absent for the last 15 consecutive games due to what the team has identified as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly referred to as “runner’s knee,” which generally involves swelling and discomfort around the kneecap.

Recently, Curry has progressed to on-court activities, marking a notable advancement in his recovery efforts. Team insiders have characterized Curry as highly driven to return for the final stretch of the season and to help guide the struggling Warriors into the playoffs via the play-in tournament. He is expected to increase his on-court activities in the days ahead.

However, Curry has labeled this right knee issue as “unpredictable,” having faced setbacks since the problem first arose during a personal workout in Minneapolis on January 24. Initially, he was optimistic about returning immediately following the All-Star break, but he reduced his on-court activities after the knee did not respond as anticipated.

The Warriors are currently on a three-game losing streak, which includes challenging back-to-back losses to the lottery-bound Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz. Their record stands at 32-33, placing them below the LA Clippers in the ninth seed, and they appear increasingly likely to face a play-in game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Curry will be unavailable for Friday’s home matchup against the Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as for road games next week against the New York Knicks, Washington Wizards, Boston Celtics, and Detroit Pistons.
