Warriors’ Stephen Curry sidelined against 76ers due to ongoing knee concern

SAN FRANCISCO — Warriors star Stephen Curry will be absent from Tuesday night’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers due to a lingering right knee issue that also sidelined him in Golden State’s last game.
The injury is officially categorized as patellofemoral pain syndrome, commonly referred to as “runner’s knee,” which generally involves swelling and discomfort around the kneecap.
Curry began to feel the issue after an individual workout in Minneapolis on January 24. He took a break for one game against the Timberwolves last Monday but has otherwise tried to play through the pain until it led to his exit during Friday night’s 131-124 defeat to the Detroit Pistons.
<pLate in the third quarter, Curry appeared to grimace after making a floater and subsequently limped to the locker room during the following timeout. He was quickly ruled out and was seen postgame in the locker room applying ice to his knee before limping out of the arena.
Curry described the issue as “super weird” and “something that I hadn’t felt before,” but the Warriors have him listed as day-to-day. Warriors coach Steve Kerr indicated that Curry’s return and management for the remainder of the season will be determined by Curry and Rick Celebrini, the team’s head medical decision-maker.
The Warriors will also be without wing Jonathan Kuminga on Tuesday night for the fifth consecutive game due to a bone bruise in his left knee.
Kuminga returned to the court this weekend and is nearing a comeback, but he is also considered a trade candidate. The deadline is Thursday afternoon, just hours before the team’s next game in Phoenix.
