Warriors secure two-way guard Pat Spencer for remainder of the season.

The Golden State Warriors are finalizing a contract with two-way guard Pat Spencer for the remainder of the season, as confirmed by Spencer’s agency to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Saturday.
This marks the second consecutive season that Spencer’s contract has been upgraded to a full roster position. Last April, the Warriors elevated him prior to the playoffs, where he made a notable impact by scoring 36 points in 63 minutes during the postseason.
However, this performance did not attract sufficient interest across the league to secure Spencer a guaranteed roster position over the summer, leading him to rejoin the Warriors on another two-way deal just before training camp commenced.
This arrangement has proven advantageous for the Warriors. Spencer has started five games and participated in 36 this season, frequently stepping in during Stephen Curry’s absences and providing additional playmaking and scoring support.
In the team’s victory over Phoenix on Thursday night, Spencer started, logged 32 minutes, and scored 20 points. This marked the 50th game this season that he has been on the active roster, which is the maximum allowed for two-way players.
As a result, Spencer would have been ineligible for Saturday night’s matchup against the Lakers unless the Warriors could create a roster spot for him. They accomplished this on Wednesday by trading Jonathan Kuminga, Buddy Hield, and Trayce Jackson-Davis, while only acquiring Kristaps Porzingis in return.
Spencer now occupies the 14th position on the roster. Sources within the league have informed ESPN that veteran free agent guard Lonzo Ball is among the candidates the Warriors are considering for the 15th spot.
NBA reporter Jake Fischer was the first to report the Warriors’ interest in Ball.
