CLEVELAND — Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has no fractures in his sprained right pinky, as confirmed by medical evaluations, coach Nick Nurse stated on Monday prior to the team’s matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The All-Star starter sustained the injury during a collision with teammate Adem Bona with 16 seconds left in the 76ers’ 126-116 defeat to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. Maxey immediately clutched his right hand, tucking it beneath his jersey as he proceeded directly to the locker room.

Maxey, who currently leads the NBA with 1,767 total points, underwent X-rays and an MRI, which revealed no broken bones in his hand. The sixth-year player had already been ruled out for Tuesday’s game, when Philadelphia will face Memphis.

“No breaks,” Nurse confirmed. “Now, he needs to consult with hand specialists to determine the next steps.”

Maxey sprained the same pinky last season, which the coach acknowledged “increases the concern factor.” He is posting career highs of 29 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in 61 games for the 76ers, who have dropped from a top-six playoff position to eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

“He appears to be alright and his spirits are high,” Nurse noted. “He is eager to return, but he must see these specialists before we proceed.”
