Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander sidelined until after All-Star break

Oklahoma City Thunder standout Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be out of action until after the All-Star break due to an abdominal strain, as announced by the team on Wednesday.
This injury will prevent the reigning MVP from participating in at least five games, starting with Wednesday’s contest against the Spurs in San Antonio. He will also miss the opportunity to play for Team World in the newly formatted three-team All-Star Game.
The Thunder indicated that Gilgeous-Alexander will undergo reevaluation following the All-Star break.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s status was uncertain prior to Tuesday’s 128-92 victory over the Orlando Magic, as he was listed as questionable due to a right index finger sprain and illness. He was cleared to play and concluded the game with 20 points and nine assists.
He maintained his streak of games scoring at least 20 points, reaching 121, but it was a close call, as he achieved his 20th point with a free throw at 2:14 remaining in the fourth quarter. Gilgeous-Alexander is just five games away from equaling Wilt Chamberlain’s record of 126 consecutive games with a minimum of 20 points.
