The Philadelphia 76ers have traded guard Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for a first-round pick from the Rockets in 2026 and three second-round selections, as announced by the teams on Wednesday.

One of the second-round selections heading to the 76ers is for 2027 (the most favorable of picks from OKC/Houston/Indiana/Miami), while the other two are for 2028 (from OKC and Milwaukee), according to sources cited by ESPN’s Shams Charania.

McCain, who was the 16th overall selection in the 2024 draft, joins the defending NBA champions after posting averages of 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists on 38.5% shooting in 16.8 minutes per game for the 76ers this season.

He made his season debut on November 4 after recovering from a torn ligament in his right (shooting) thumb, which he sustained during a workout just before the 76ers’ season-opening media day. At 21 years old, McCain missed a significant portion of his rookie season due to season-ending surgery for a torn meniscus in December 2024.

This trade enables the 76ers to acquire assets, alleviate the surplus of guards, and provides them with the flexibility to re-sign Quentin Grimes in free agency. It also allows them to convert two-way player Dominick Barlow.

The trade follows an abdominal strain suffered by Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander during Tuesday’s matchup against the Orlando Magic. He will be reassessed after the All-Star break.

Subsequently, the Thunder traded Ousmane Dieng and a 2029 second-round pick (the most favorable of picks from Atlanta/Miami) to the Charlotte Hornets in return for Mason Plumlee. Dieng was then sent by the Hornets to the Bulls in a separate transaction.
