LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Dončić has ended his engagement with fiancée Anamaria Goltes and is currently involved in a custody dispute regarding their two daughters, he informed ESPN.

“My daughters mean everything to me, and I have been striving to have them with me in the U.S. during the season, but that has not been feasible, leading me to make the difficult choice to terminate my engagement,” Dončić stated in a message shared with ESPN on Tuesday. “Every action I take is for my daughters’ well-being, and I will always advocate for being with them and providing the best life possible.”

Earlier on Tuesday, TMZ reported that Goltes had submitted a petition requesting child support and legal fees from Dončić. Sources acquainted with Dončić’s circumstances told ESPN that the petition was lodged in California, where one of Dončić’s daughters was only with him for three months last spring, while his other daughter has never visited the state. Dončić was reportedly “unaware” that Goltes had filed the petition.

Sources familiar with Dončić’s situation further indicated that Dončić, who signed a three-year, $165 million contract extension with the Lakers in August, has consistently supported his family and covers his daughters’ expenses “without limitation.”

Dončić, 27, proposed to Goltes, a fashion and fitness model, in July 2023 after they had known each other since childhood and began dating in 2016.

The couple welcomed their first daughter, Gabriela, in November 2023 in the United States while Dončić was playing for the Dallas Mavericks. Following his trade to the Lakers, their second child, Olivia, was born in December 2025 in Slovenia.

Earlier this season, Dončić took time away from the Lakers to travel to Slovenia for Olivia’s birth, missing games against the Toronto Raptors on Dec. 4 and the Boston Celtics on Dec. 5.

During his visitation, Dončić expressed a wish to bring Gabriela back with him to the U.S. when he was set to join the team in Philadelphia for a game against the 76ers on Dec. 7. This led to a disagreement with his then-fiancée, prompting Goltes, 27, to call the police, sources familiar with the situation informed ESPN.

Officers arrived at Kranj Maternity Hospital on Dec. 6. According to the police report reviewed by ESPN, officers “did not detect any elements of a criminal offense or misdemeanor” committed by Dončić.

Dončić left the hospital without incident and returned to the U.S. later that day, sources informed ESPN.

Since then, he has not seen his daughters or Goltes.

When asked about his trip to Slovenia after the game against the Sixers, Dončić remarked: “I can’t even find the words to describe it. It was a lot. I was there for the birth of my daughter, which means everything to me. But it was certainly a roller coaster.”

Last week, Goltes removed all images of herself and Dončić from her Instagram account, intensifying online speculation regarding their relationship status.

An interim injunction was filed by Dončić on Feb. 26 with the Slovenian courts, seeking immediate contact with Gabriela and Olivia, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN. Since arriving in L.A. for Lakers training camp on Sept. 26, Dončić has only been able to see his daughters for two days.

In Dončić’s inaugural full season with the Lakers, the 6-foot-8 guard has recorded an average of 32.5 points, leading the league, along with 8.4 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game. L.A. (39-25) is set to host the Minnesota Timberwolves (40-24) on Tuesday night.
