Kyrie Irving to sit out remainder of season, aims for comeback in 2026-27

Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving will be sidelined for the remainder of the season as he continues his recovery from knee surgery performed last March, according to his agent, Shams Charania of ESPN.
Irving, who had surgery in March 2026 to address a torn left ACL, has not participated in any games this season. The nine-time All-Star is anticipated to make his return for the 2026-27 season.
“This is about Kyrie being 1,000% when he returns and providing himself the best opportunity to pursue a championship next season,” stated his agent, Shetellia Riley Irving, to Charania.
At 33 years old, Irving also missed the last 20 games of the previous season due to the knee injury.
The Mavericks hold a 75-53 record with Irving on the court since the 15-year veteran joined the team in the 2022-23 season. In contrast, they have a record of just 42-75 in games without him.
Currently, the Mavericks are positioned fourth in the Southwest Division with a 19-35 record as they enter the post-All-Star break segment of their schedule.
Earlier this month, Dallas indicated its plans for a rebuild by trading Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards in a significant nine-player deal.
