The Boston Celtics are returning to the playoffs following another season with 50 wins.

Not too shabby for a “gap” year, as noted by Jaylen Brown.

The Celtics star took a lighthearted jab at those who questioned the 2025-26 team after Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury, sharing his thoughts on social media after Boston’s playoff-clinching 114-99 win over the Charlotte Hornets on Sunday night.

“50 wins in a gap year ☘️,” Brown posted.

Brown did not participate in Sunday’s game, missing a second consecutive match due to left Achilles tendinitis. However, this did not hinder a Celtics team that has now secured three consecutive victories (including one against the league-leading Thunder), won seven of its last eight games, and achieved the 50-win milestone for the fifth consecutive season.

Many were skeptical about this being possible at the start of the season, with Tatum recovering from a torn Achilles sustained in the playoffs last May and key players like Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis traded during the offseason.

Yet, with Brown at the helm during an MVP-caliber season, Boston has emerged as arguably the biggest surprise in the league and is now a serious title contender with Tatum back in good health.

The victory over the Hornets officially secured the Celtics a spot in the playoffs for the 12th consecutive season, extending the longest active streak in the NBA. Tatum played a significant role, scoring 32 points, his highest total in 11 games since his return earlier this month.

He executed turn-around jumpers off one foot, outpaced defenders on drives, delivered an impressive two-hand dunk, and created opportunities for teammates with open shots after attracting double teams, all while demonstrating patience and composure.

“I didn’t feel like I was rushed,” Tatum told reporters in Charlotte. “I was still a bit fatigued, so that’s something I’m continuing to work on. But I appreciate that I’m being decisive in my movements and exploding when necessary (and) reacting. Obviously, it helps when you make shots. I can say I feel better than I did in the last game. Hopefully, I feel even better in the next game than I did today.”

Tatum became the youngest player in Celtics history to achieve 14,000 points.

“I’ve been fortunate to be part of some really strong teams, surrounded by excellent players and coaches on the staff who have empowered me and contributed to my development as a player,” he stated.

However, he is more pleased to be playing basketball again at a high level after a challenging rehabilitation process. The Celtics share this sentiment, boasting a 9-2 record since his return to the court.

“I’ve had to put in a lot of effort just to run up and down the floor,” Tatum remarked.
