Illinois freshman guard Keaton Wagler will enter the NBA draft, as confirmed by his agency ProMondo Sports to ESPN.

Wagler, ranked No. 5 in ESPN’s Top 100 prospects, made a significant impact this season, guiding the 28-9 Fighting Illini to their first Final Four appearance since 2005, receiving consensus second team All-American recognition, and positioning himself as a likely lottery pick.

The 6-6 Wagler recorded averages of 17.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists with only 1.8 turnovers this season, shooting 44.5% from the field and 39.7% from beyond the arc as the main offensive force for Illinois. His accolades included the Jerry West shooting guard of the year award, First Team All-Big Ten, and Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

A native of Shawnee, Kan., Wagler came to Illinois with minimal national recognition following a subdued recruitment process, despite securing two state championships in high school. After impressing the Illini coaching staff upon his arrival, he became a vital component of the team, starting all 37 games, which included a remarkable 46-point performance on the road against Purdue in January, and 25 points versus Iowa to propel Illinois to the Final Four last month.

Wagler’s rapid rise as a prospect has been fueled by his size for the position, excellent shooting ability, and quick decision-making, enabling him to contribute to winning basketball at both guard spots. Numerous NBA executives are optimistic about his development potential, basketball IQ, and long-term prospects, often highlighting his potential for physical and ball-handling enhancements as a feasible route to achieving a star-level ceiling.

The NBA draft lottery is scheduled for May 10, with the draft combine commencing on May 11.
